Mike brings over a decade of accounting experience to the CFO Systems team. He spent the first half of his career in public accounting, performing audit and attestation, tax planning, and tax preparation services for cooperatives and agribusiness clients.
His career path then led him to join the private sector where he became the Controller at Siouxland Energy Cooperative, serving as a vital component of the leadership team. At Siouxland, his experience encompassed both manufacturing processes and the unique accounting and regulations related to renewable fuels. During his time as Controller, he spearheaded the analysis that ultimately resulted in changes to practices regarding the handling of raw materials, commodity purchasing, and performing ROI analysis and forecasts. Mike also managed the budget of a $20M capital project that was among the first of its kind for the industry.
After transitioning into a role as Chief Financial Officer for New Vision Coop, Mike oversaw and led all accounting functions. He also developed strategies to improve the balance sheet, equity position, and financial ratios, focused on enhancing strategic forecasts and cash flow analyses. Additionally, he made substantial improvements to New Vision’s finance and accounting processes that included leading the implementation of a new ERP system and partnering with other managers to budget and vet over $50M of capital expenditures over a four-year period. Moreover, he was able to position New Vision’s debt structure to take advantage of low interest rates and significant variances in seasonal cash flow.
Mike is able to engage quickly with all levels within an organization while bringing a positive attitude and high level of analysis that helps boost growth and streamline processes.
